Key New Features in DISCUS Basic 2.1

• "Drop & Drag" Drawing Mark Up
  Now, with a single click it's possible to add a balloon AND mark up the drawing AND create a characteristic image requirement. While in balloon mode simply click, hold and drag a rectangle around the feature being identified and the balloon will be created next to the snap rectangle image. Quickly mark up the drawing, then complete the characteristic by navigating through them with the Characteristic Properties window.
• Built-in RADAR
  Recognition Algorithm to Define Accurate Requirements (RADAR) is the DISCUS capability to recognize common drawing dimensional looks and patterns. DISCUS will apply RADAR evaluation to OCR results or PDF text extracted from a characteristics mark up area. When RADAR recognizes a dimensional pattern, DISCUS will fill in the characteristic requirement data for you. RADAR works on dimensional and notes. RADAR reduces manual typing and data entry. DISCUS 2.1's RADAR works automatically on drawings that contain PDF text. To see this demonstrated, take a look at our new short online demo. For drawings that do not have PDF text (only an image of the original drawing), you'll need the OCR Add-on for DISCUS to get the RADAR capability.

  Let RADAR fill in the structured requirment data for you.
• Fill In Drawing Mark Up Areas
  Characteristic image requirement rectangles can now be transparently shaded in the same color as the balloon. This visual aid helps assess what has been ballooned and what still needs to be identified.
• Check your drawing for Mark Up Completeness
  After you have marked up many of the characteristics on a drawing, it can become hard to see - have all the characteristics been identified. Now, you can switch the drawing to "white out" all the marked up areas, so you can easily see any dimensions or notes not included. Simply select menu Drawing, Snap Requirement-Image Options, White Out Snap Rectangles or use the keyboard short cut ctrl-w to toggle the white out option.
• New Characteristic Properties window
  The new Characteristic Properties window is your characteristic completion workbench. We've added the capability to
  • Adjust the size (scale) of the individual characteristic's snap rectangle image
  • Crop the characteristic's image to refine the actual image and mark up area
  • Rotate the individual to work with images that are a different orientation than the drawing page
  • View and adjust your OCR settings (if you have purchased the OCR Add-on for DISCUS)
  • OCR or re-OCR the image after adjusting image size, crop or OCR settings
  • Evaluate the text in the editting panel with RADAR to fill in the structure requirement values for you
• New OCR settings for RADAR
  • Auto Compile Structure Requirement
    If you have the OCR Add-on, use the Auto Compile Structure Requirement setting to have DISCUS Basic automatically OCR characteristic snap rectangle images AND fill in the structured requirement for the characteristic based upon the RADAR evaluation. If your drawing has PDF text or is OCR friendly, this feature will virtually complete the characteristic for you in many cases.
  • Set Single Values to Tolerances
    When the drawing has single value dimensions and says apply a standard tolerance unless otherwise noted, use the Set Single Values to Tolerances setting to instruct RADAR to apply the default tolerances from the DISCUS Default Precision and Tolerances table to the characteristic structure requirement.
• Mark Up Area Transparency Control
  Your filled in marked up area too light or too dark. Use the new slider control to adjust the transparency to your preferred level.
• Overall Snap Rectangle Scaling
  The actual size of the characteristic snap rectangle mark up area is driven by original size of the drawing page in PDF. While working with the characteristics or the exported excel inspection sheets, you may decide - I' like to make all the characteristic snap rectangle images bigger or smaller. To do this, just select menu item Drawing, Snap Requirement-Image Options, Adjust Snap Rectangle Scale, and adjust them all with 1 action.
