iaqg-logoThe IAQG, International Aerospace Quality Group has a wonderful site loaded with information and tools to help us all in our journey to achieving the best quality products and services possible.

One of my favorite sections is the IAQG Dictionary under publications, developing and understanding a common language is key in moving forward. In fact some say that is what ‘standards’ are all about, having a common understanding of what something means.

Here are a few examples from the dictionary:

Accuracy

  1. precision with which a measurement can match the actual value of the quantity being measured

Effectiveness

  1. extent to which planned activities are realized and planned results achieved.

First Article Inspection

  1. A complete, independent, and documented physical and functional inspection process to verify that prescribed production methods have produced an acceptable item as specified by engineering drawings, planning, purchase order, engineering specifications, and/or other applicable design documents. [9102]
  2. complete, independent, and documented physical and functional inspection process to verify that prescribed production methods have produced an acceptable item as specified by engineering drawings, planning, purchase order, engineering specifications, and/or other applicable design documents. (EN 9102) [IAQG-history]

First Article Inspection Report (Get Your Free Usable AS9102 Forms Here)

  1. The forms and package of documentation for a part number or assembly, including FAI results, as per this Standard. [9102]
  2. FAI results for a part or assembly, including the completed forms and documentation. [IAQG-history]

Just imagine what it takes for a standards body or group to come to agreement on language and definition on a global scale. Our thanks go out to those who serve on these bodies and groups.
