DISCUS CMM Reduces Losses in Time, Labor, and Potential Errors

The objective of DISCUS CMM is to reduce the time, labor, and potential errors that are involved in incorporating CMM results into FAI and ISIR reports.

Basic Process

The basic process for taking a CMM Report and entering the results into an FAI or ISIR Report involves:

  • Making sure that the DISCUS CMM Report matches the FAI Report part number.
  • Mapping the rows/cells in the CMM Report to the rows/cells in FAI Report
  • Adding any status or other info on the FAI Report, such as measuring equipment, comments, etc.
  • Tracking that all the DISCUS CMM Report values have been addressed and transferred to the FAI Report

In the manual approach, this entire process takes about 30 seconds to 1.0 minute per characteristic.   With DISCUS CMM, this take less than a couple of seconds.

Straightforward Interface

Several details of the Report Panel can appear confusing, but they are actually quite straightforward.   The metrics shows real-time usage and any ongoing issues with the Report.  The Axis-to-CN or “CN” column indicates the results of the mapping.  If there are any issues with the report “axis,” the background of the cell will become yellow, making any issues easy to identify.  A simple checkbox under the “Apply” column provides option to exclude from using in BoC Results.  And finally, the report content rows contain the actual report.

Typically, for a high level of productive work flow on a DISCUS CMM Import, the user will start by opening the CMM Report in the DISCUS CMM Report Panel.  DISCUS will then display Axis-to-CN mapping and will proceed to automatically copy what is shown to Results.  Finally, the user can review the Axis-to-CN mapping, and make any adjustments as needed.

Faster, Efficient Report Handling Process

There are several potential user scenarios when dealing with CMM reports.  When the CMM Report is mapped to BoC, it is called “automatic.”  DISCUS CMM associates Axes to CNs and auto-applies result values to Inspection Reports.  When dealing with the Suggest scenario, the CMM Report does not have mapping to BoC.  Instead, DISCUS helps the user identify candidate CNs for each CMM Report Axis.  And finally, under the Backfill scenario, there is only a CMM Report.  No BOC actually exists.  In this case, DISCUS helps user create BoC and ballooned drawing from the CMM Report.

DISCUS CMM is able to effectively manage the multiple measurements for proper reporting, resulting in a faster and more efficient report handling process.
